Central Synagogue, the oldest continuously operating synagogue in NYC, is a designated NYC Landmark and a National Historic Landmark. The associated nine-story Community House, which houses a primary school, required an extensive MEP Replacement to modernize the equipment to meet rising air conditioning needs.

The scope of work included replacement of the major existing HVAC and mechanical cooling systems, as well as a new chiller plant and cooling towers, which required reinforcement and encasement of existing cast-iron columns. The project also involved the replacement of electrical switch gear and fire alarm panel, and the fire protection water tank, with associated plumbing and sprinkler work.

Some of the work extended into the Synagogue itself, and both facilities remained fully operational throughout construction, despite challenging external and internal conditions.
